The meeting was held at 6:00 pm at the Flathead Valley Community College

The reading of the minutes from the April 11th meeting began at 6:03 pm. The minutes were approved as read.

The bills for May totaled $2,587.17 in operating costs including the Mild Fence balance of $1,591.50 and $ 5,157.01for vet bills, mileage and chipping; plus Dr. Hutton’s bill of $1,345.00. Tami White made a motion to pay the May bills and Eileen Carney 2nd the motion. The motion passed and the bills will be paid.

Shelter Report:

Tami White gave the shelter report. Five are in the dogs in the shelter. Forty eight cats are in the shelter. Rob is still available. Dr. Hutton will be at the shelter April 30th.

The public needs to make appointments to have their pets chipped with Corinne.

Ty came in for a visit. The fence is in and working out great.

Candice, from the Car Center, wants cats to visit on Tuesday May 10th. Becky Monroe took Maggie, the cat, to The Ponderay Clinic; a change of diet was suggested.

Guest: Cory Cromer – Animal Control and care Mr. Cromer gave KPFL an overview of his duties that pertain to Animal Control. He wants to make it easier for volunteers to know about new cats information and animals that that have been taken in to Animal Control.

Bark in the Park on Saturday June 4th – Presented by Lincoln County Animal Control at J. Neil’s Park ; from 11:00 am – 4:00 pm. There will be prizes, contests, food trucks and we hope this works into something big!!!

Debbie’s Grooming , in Troy, houses animals on the weekends; on occasion. Animals come first.

The reading of the minutes from the March 14th meeting began at 6:25 pm. The minutes were approved as read.

The bills for April totaled $1,302.51 in operating costs and $2,747.02 for vet bills, mileage and chipping. Judy Hyslop made a motion to pay the April bills and Connie Holthaus 2nd the motion. The motion passed and the bills will be paid.

Shelter Report

As of March 31st 2016 there were 36 cats in the shelter and one in foster care for a total of 37 cats in the system. There were 4 dogs in the shelter and three in foster care for a total of 7 dogs in the system. There were a total of 24 dog adoptions and 19 cat adoptions in 2016.

Susan Bulyar is back at the as a volunteer!

Dr. Hutton will be at the shelter on Saturday April 30th to spay or neuter dogs; 14 dogs were s/n. Becky Monroe is taking catsto the Ponderay Vet Clinic in Bonners Ferry, ID. Wicket and Paul (?) will make the journey to ID.

Chipping will be done by Corinne Wright; appointments need to be made in advance.

Edwina is working on the fencing on the kennels.

The Mild Fence estimate came to $3,375.00. Half of the bill will be paid when the work begins and balance due on completion. KPFL may get a discount if some of the materials are used that are at the play yard.

The bills for March totaled $3,487.83 in operating costs including USPS $98.00 for stamps for SI letter and $102.00 for PO Box rental also $1,687.50 for half payment to Mild Fence Co. for shelter play yard fencing and $4,002.70 for vet bills, mileage and exam for “Tyâ€. There are 28 cats in the shelter, 4 cats in foster; total 32 cats in the system.

There are 8 dogs in the shelter, 4 dogs in foster: total 12 dogs in the system.

Adoptions in 2016; 3 dogs and 9 cats

Fencing on kennels; when winter has passed Edwina has the fencing. Mr. Butler has replaced the lighting out back.

Handbook for cats - we have commented on it. It is ok to have it at the shelter as “suggestionsâ€.

Yaak River Lodge benefit – KPFL is waiting for some dates and times. The 1st part of May was discussed.

Rummage Sale – The City Council approved the waiver of the rental and cleaning of the Ponderosa Room for the rummage sale.

The rummage sale is on February 26th and 27th. There is a lot of stuff at the shelter that could be used at the sale.

Raffle – KPFL will sell raffle tickets until April 1st. We will draw the winners at Rosauer’s. We will set a time.

New Business:

Volunteer Fair – report - Bobby and Edwina; a dog walker was interested. Edwina will train.

Jasmine is busy with her mother so can’t volunteer for a while.

It’s good to get our message out

Letter – Need new door jambs, fencing; this could be a Scout project but needs some professional installation. Height of 8 feet, Judy is checking. The autoclave purchase is not for the Shelter Improvement letter.

Elections – Anita, Eileen, Tami and Carol M. are up.

Winter Warmer - At the Friends of the Shelter, is on February 27th.

Cabinet Peaks Health Fair - April 9th at the Memorial Center; Connie Holthaus will go will hand out volunteer forms, magazines, treats and updated brochures.

The meeting was held at 6:00 pm at the Antlers Restaurant as the Flathead Valley Community College was not open until January 25th

Attending: Eileen Carney, Tami White, Connie Holthaus, Judy Hyslop, Linda Andreasen, Anita Beasley and Beth Murray.

The reading of the minutes from the November 9th 2015 meeting began at 6:00 pm. The minutes were approved as read.

The bills for November totaled $3,191.87 in operating costs that included shelter insurance $1,382.00 and $3,011.06 for vet bills, mileage and chipping. Tami White made a motion to pay the November 2015 bills and Beth Murray 2nd the motion. The motion passed and the bills will be paid.

The bills for December totaled $3,548.00 in operating costs and $4,167.00 for vet bills, mileage and micro chipping ; the bills were paid.

Correspondence:

John Runkle of The Yaak River Lodge contacted KPFL about a possible benefit for us in May. Mr. Runkle was impressed that as a veteran his pets were treated at no cost to him at the shelter.

Mrs. Jake Ryan, an author, is planning on joining in at the Yaak River Lodge to do a book signing of her debut novel; to be released by Simon & Schuster. We are very excited about this weekend and happy to spread the word about KPFL’s endeavors.

Shelter Report: Tami White gave the shelter report. As of December 31, 2015 There are 30 cats in the shelter and 6 in foster care. There are 5 dogs in the shelter and 3 in foster care.

The year to date adoptions, in 2015, is 194.

The microchip subtotal for 2015 is 133.

KPFL has a clinic every Tuesday with Dr. Disney. Corrine Wright is at the surgery from 5:00 – 7:00 pm on Tuesday; also. KPFL has requested that the public make appointments for micro chipping at the shelter. Will try for an early day December 22nd and December 29th.

Kate Maffei is at the shelter, on Wednesday, to volunteer.

We will discuss the fencing on the kennels at the next meeting in February.

Mr. Butler replaced the dawn to dusk bulb in the back of the shelter.

The meeting began at 6:00 pm with the reading of the minutes from the October 12th meeting. The minutes were approved as read.

Financials:

The bills for October totaled $2,879.05 in operating costs that included $1400.00 for the Bow Wow Bash. The bills totaled $4,918.13 for vet bills, mileage, vaccinations, chipping and $324.00 for servicing the anesthesia machine. Tami White made a motion to pay the bills and Beth Murray 2nd the motion. The motion carried and the bills will be paid.

KPFL discussed the bill for the Philadelphia Insurance Co.

Shelter Report:

Tami White gave the shelter report. The intake at the shelter included 6 dogs and 10 cats for 16 animals. There are 33 cats at the shelter and 8 dogs.

Kate Maffei has started volunteering at the shelter.

On October 27th the Mental Health group walked dogs and played with the cats.

By the end of September KPFL has spay or neutered 447 animals.

99 animals have been micro chipped so far this year.

Edwina Smith was still working on the kennels. We may touch back on this subject in the spring.

The lighting out back of the shelter needs to be better for the volunteers. Maybe dusk to dawn mercury vapor.

We need to order new Kuranda beds for the dogs. Bobby McCanse made a motion to order new ones. Lynn Hagarty 2nd the motion. The motion carried and new beds will be ordered. Lynn volunteered Jack to repair the current damaged beds.

On November 24th cats will travel to Flathead Task Force. Corinne will do chipping from 5:00 – 7:00 pm.

Dr. Disney is donating 10% for the Vets animals; (Ralph, Rascal and Buddy).

Face book: Carol McAllister’s niece, Dorsey Ausband, will work on face book for a while. Kathy Powers has expressed an interest in the KPFL face book. Trina Kerzman had worked on the face book page but has had some health issues lately. We will find out if she is still interested.

The Web page is managed by Marge Sullivan.

Need to plan to spend more time with volunteers who need it.

Rob may be able to volunteer at the shelter through January 2016.

Susan Bulyard’s hours are being filled by Kate Maffei and Jasmine Augustine; thanks for stepping up.

The Volunteer fair on November 10th will be manned by Rob, Edwina and Bobby. Set up until 2:00 pm. The fair is from 3:00 -7:00 pm.

Yaak River Creations did a very nice job on the direction signs for the shelter.

New Business:

Fence – Edwina is still testing the concept of fencing. Carol McAllister will bring a sample of welded wire from Home Depot in Kalispell.

Stand Down – On October 3rd & 4th the VFW invited KPFL to give shots and chips to the pets of Veterans. A pen with a gate was loaned to KPFL from Homesteaders. It was placed inside the large tent for volunteers to vaccinate, chip and exam. Volunteers from Flathead S/N Task Force brought vaccinations, rabies shots and micro chips. 87 dogs and cats were assisted. Judy Hyslop, Connie Holthaus, Corinne Wright and three volunteers from the Task Force made this year’s veterans pet’s project very successful.

Signs – Yaak Creations was contacted to make the signs for River Rd and Pipe Ck to show direction of the shelter; include direction arrows, phone number and our name. A motion by Connie Holthaus was made to get the signs completed. Include slits in the signs for give; no ripping. Beth Murray 2nd the motion. The motion carried and the signs will be made.

Recycling – need bins for recycling and covered bins for cardboard at the shelter. Judy Hyslop has the covered garbage cans that KPFL use to use at the Blues Fest. They will be at the shelter.

Safety – Edwina is working on the Policies and Procedures; it’s happening.

The Animeals donation has all been used.

There are 47 cats in the shelter; 5 cats in foster = 52 cats in system There are 8 dogs in the shelter; 5 dogs in foster = 13 dogs in system Adoptions: 7 dogs and 13 cats

Rob working out well as a volunteer; fixing the signs on Pipe Ck Rd and River Rd. Dr. Disney will be at the shelter on September 1st, 9th and 9/29. Corinne Wright will do micro chipping on September 22nd. Cats will travel to The Flathead S/N Task Force on Sept. 22nd.

Evacuation Plan: Beth Murray has a big trailer that could be used.

Tami White had prepared some of the kennels for extra animals.

Seventy animals have been spay or neutered. Tami has been using the Animeals donated food for the cats and dogs in the shelter.

The fence bid is being handled by Edwina Smith; Rob Roderick might help.

The Animeals food is at Friends of the Shelter; see Corrine Wright.

The safety program is being fleshed out by Edwina Smith; will include more information on policies and procedures. A signature space should be included

The Stand Down will take place October 3-4 2015 at the VFW. This is a program provided for veterans that has been in effect the past 14 years. The Flathead spay/neuter Task Force will come from Kalispell with a vet tech. Corinne Wright, Judy Hyslop and Connie Holthaus will assist. Vaccinations, rabies shots and micro chipping will be provided by the Task Force.

The Bow Wow Bash will take place on October 10th. We are still looking for an auctioneer; any suggestions?
