Kootenai Pets for Life monthly minutes: November 10th, 2014

The meeting was held at The Flathead Valley Community College at 6:00 pm

Attending:

The reading of the minutes from the October 13th meeting began at 6:00 pm. The minutes were approved as read.

The bills for November totaled $2,903.20 in operating costs including $1,345.00 insurance for the shelter; also $4,730.61 for vet bills, mileage, vaccinations, chipping and $290.00 maintenance on anesthesia equipment. Tami White made a motion to pay the November bills and Judy Hyslop 2nd the motion. The motion passed and the bills will be paid.

Shelter Report:

Tami White gave the shelter report.

There was an intake of 5 dogs.

Four feral cats were taken in at the shelter.

There are 11 dogs in the shelter and 43 cats.

Edwina installed the privacy panels in the kennels; thanks Edwina.

Small dogs from California are looking for a shelter; we decided not to add them to our numbers. We will discuss at a future date.

Dr. Disney will be at the shelter 11/4, 11/11, 11/25, 12/16 and 12/19.

Cats will travel to the Flathead Spay and Neuter on Tuesday November 18th. Corinne Wright will do chipping at the shelter on November 18th from 5:00 – 8:00 pm.

Claire Evans has been volunteering at the shelter. She answers the phone, does laundry, sweeps and whatever needs to be done; wonderful!

Bobby McCanse discussed the Do Not Adopt list. There is a link from Beth Murray to Lynn Hagarty for this list.

Please take time to orient new volunteers when they come in to work at the shelter.

The $1,000.00 Community Foundation Grant was received. It will be used to pay off the Shelter Improvement Project; interior painting.

The Homesteaders open house event was great; gave out our brochure and took in $20.00 in donations and the weather was good.

Eileen Carney has completed and sent in the request for the $5,000.00 grant from the Sands Memorial Foundation. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

New Business:

Cabinet Mtn. Brewing Co. will hold a benefit for KPFL on Thursday December 11th from 5:00 – 8:00 pm.

KPFL will have an open house at the shelter December 14th from 12:00 – 2:00 pm; cookies and coffee will be served. We’re looking for new or returning volunteers.

We will ask Duane Williams at KLCB, to announce the open house for us; on the radio.

KPFL needs to replace the water pressure tank. This could run about $300.00.

We are getting the raffle tickets ready for the rummage sale, in February. Items available so far; dog carrier, sun catcher and we hope a gift card from Rosauers.

The reading of the minutes from the September 8th meeting began at 6:05 pm. The minutes were approved as read.

The bills for October totaled $3,249.91 in operating costs including Bow Wow Bash expenses totaling $1600.00 and Libby Chamber dues $65.00; also $4,841.21 for vet bills, mileage, vaccinations and chipping . Judy Hyslop made a motion to pay the October bills and Connie Holthaus 2nd the motion. The motion passed and the bills will be paid.

KPFL received a flyer from the new brewery suggesting a fund raiser for us; maybe the first part of November.

Shelter Report:

Tami White gave the shelter report.

Intakes were 21 animals; 7 dogs and 14 cats.

Two dogs were returned. 9 dogs are in shelter and 1 in foster care.

There are 55 cats in the shelter.

KPFL has a new WEX worker.

We plan to put the big banner on the fence across from McDonalds that KPFL needs volunteers and our phone number.

Tami shared information on new Karunda beds for dogs and cat trees. There could be a Pet Finder discount. Judy Hyslop made a motion to look into the beds and tree. Beth Murray 2nd the motion and the motion passed.

It was decided to purchase fiberglass sheets 4’X8’ from Western Building to use as dividers in the kennels. Edwina Smith made a motion to purchase the fiberglass and Tami White 2nd. The motion passed.

Kenni-Anne Schauer may not be able to take shelter photos soon; may need a substitute.

Corinne Wright has chipped all the dogs in the shelter.

Dr. Disney will be at the shelter 10/7, 10/21, 10/24, 11/4 and 11/25.

KPFL will travel to Flathead with cats on 10/21 and Corinne will chip on the 21st from 5:00 – 7:00 pm.

The reading of the minutes from the August 11th meeting began at 6:00 pm. The minutes were approved as read.

The bills for September totaled $2,341.57 in operating costs that include MT Screen Printing for T-shirts, Yaak River Creations for BWB banner and Mtn. Mini Storage. The total of $4,327.97 was spent for vet bills, mileage, chipping and pet meds; Beth Murray made a motion to pay the September bills and Judy Hyslop 2nd the motion. The motion passed and the bills will be paid.

KPFL has made a $100.00 payment to Ron’s Appliance for the new used washer/dryer set. The washer and dryer will be paid in full when The Thrivent funds are received. A new computer was needed for the shelter; KPFL will pay $100.00 a month for this new item.

The new brush cutter was purchased from ACE for $189.99 with a new gas can for $14.99; total $204.98.

Shelter Report:

Judy Hyslop gave the shelter report as Tami was gone. Two female cats have had kittens. There are three feral cats outside that we hope to have fixed.

The shelter office would like to have a volunteer to answer the phone from 10:00 – 12:00.

Dr. Disney will be at the Shelter 9/5, 9/9, 9/26 and 9/30. KPFL will take cats to Flathead on 9/23. Corinne will do chipping on 9/23 from 5:00 -7:00 pm. Corinne has chipped nine dogs.

Kootenai Pets for Life made a motion to raise the adoption prices of dogs to $75.00 that includes spay or neutering, vacs, rabies and chipping; cats price would be raised to $35.00 with the same items included in the adoption as above. Judy Hyslop made a motion to raise adoption fees; Connie Holthaus 2nd the motion passed and the prices will go into effect September 15, 2014.

The air exchange system has been cleaned. Note service light. System should be cleaned every four months

Tiles: Still planning for a Scooby tile.

A permanent Bow Wow Bash poster was discussed so it could be used from year to year. Tickets were handed out to the group so we can sell, sell and sell! Looking for donations; Ron Adamson is the auctioneer and we still need a Vanna or two and need to contact the sound system guru.

Homesteaders would like purchase 10 KPFL t-shirts so they can be worn at their open house. This open house has been scheduled for October.

Eileen Carney is completing the Community Foundation request. We asked for monies to complete payment for paint for the shelter improvement project.

The meeting was held at 6:00 pm at Fireman’s Park as the Flathead College closes at 5:00 in the summer.

The reading of the minutes from the July 14th meeting began at 6:00 pm. The minutes were approved as read.

The bills for August totaled $2,329.33 in operating costs that include painting supplies charged by Monte LeHew and Mtn. Mini Storage. The total of $3,473.58 was spent for vet bills, mileage, chipping and a $344.70 order for pet supplies placed by Kim Annis. Tami White made a motion to pay the August bills and Judy Hyslop 2nd the motion. The motion passed and the bills will be paid.

Shelter Report:

Tami White gave the shelter report. Twenty six animals were taken in to the shelter; 7 dogs and 19 cats. Three kittens and 1 puppy are in foster care. There are 49 cats and 7 dogs in KPFL care.

Kenni-Anne Schauer will be gone for a few weekends. We will need someone to do information for the radio.

There was a question about a DNA list on line. Is there?

Homesteaders will have a table at the front entrance, on August 16th, so KPFL can drum up volunteer interest that is always needed. Give out information about Kootenai Pets for Life for those who don’t know about us and pet adoptions and hopefully put in a plug for the Bow Wow Bash in October. Kim Annis and Bobby McCanse will handle this project. The plan is to be at Homesteaders once a month; anyone interested?

Tami and Edwina are still checking on the weed eater for the shelter.

Dr. Disney will be at the Shelter 8/19, 9/5 and 9/30. KPFL will take cats to Flathead on 8/19. Corinne will do chipping on 8/19 from 5:00 -7:00 pm.

Monte LeHew should complete the Shelter Improvement painting project by August 15th; yea Monte!!!

The emergency Care waiver form is in existence.

The returned to owner form is still being worked on.

Tami and Edwina are taking Bo, the German, from the Idaho Shelter to Dr. Calm, in Kila, for an evaluation.

The Blues Festival went well. We had plenty of volunteers, lights for our tent, tasty water, T-shirts, our donation jug and our new KPFL brochure. We sold $124.00 in H2o, we made $43.29 in our donation jug and sold a KPFL T-shirt for a total of $187.29.

The Thrivent application is still being processed. We should hear soon about when and how much.

Bobby and Edwina were at a garage sale and found a new KPFL friend; Nancy Neubrech who donated $100.00 toward a newer washer/dryer for the shelter. Nancy also gave us a dog bank, the red goose, towels and some rugs. We are most grateful Nancy.

Ron’s Appliance was recommended for the washer and dryer purchase. Judy Hyslop made a motion for this purchase and Beth Murray 2nd the motion. The motion was approved.

We had a pizza get together at Fireman’s Park.

The reading of the minutes from the June 9th meeting began at 6:05 pm. The minutes were approved as read.

The bills for July totaled $1,958.69 in operating costs including ; T shirt printing and pizza also $2,223.91 for vet bills, mileage, vacs. and chipping . Judy Hyslop made a motion to pay the July bills and Susan Bulyar 2nd the motion. The motion passed and the bills will be paid.

Shelter Report:

Tami White gave the shelter report. There are six dogs in system and 39 cats. Tami and Edwina Smith went to The Panhandle Animal Shelter and transferred 4 dogs to the KPFL.

New volunteers working with cats and will start with dogs.

Please make arrangements to fill in at the shelter while Tami is on vacation.

Dr. Disney will be at the shelter on 7/8 and 7/23.

Cats will go to Flathead 7/22 and Corinne will be at the shelter for chipping on 7/22.

Cats had escaped from the shelter through the screened windows. Most of them came back; can you believe it? Mr. Murray fixed the window screens with heavy duty screening.

Monte Lehew is starting the painting in the shelter. Blue is for the walls and white for the ceiling. A lighter blue is planned for the bathroom.

KPFL took two dogs to Troy for the 4th of July Parade.

Scooby passed away and was cremated. Edwina Smith has the ashes. We will decide where they should go. We also want a tile made in his memory.

KPFL discussed purchasing a weed eater for the shelter. Edwina and Tami will look into; checking at ACE. Judy made a motion to purchase a good weed eater and Lynn Hagarty 2nd.

We will purchase T-shirts from MT Screen Printing. Try to get thirty shirts done.

Eileen is working on a grant request. What can we request?
