Kootenai Pets for Life monthly minutes: November 14th, 2016

The meeting was held at 6:00 pm at the Flathead Valley Community College

Attending: Eileen Carney, Tami White, Judy Hyslop, Connie Holthaus, Susan Bulyar, Lynn Hagarty, Becky Monroe, Beth Murray and Deb Starkweather

The reading of the minutes from the October 10th meeting began at 6:00 pm. The minutes were approved as read.

The bills for November totaled $1,912.18 in operating costs and $6,433.41 for vet bills, mileage and chipping. Judy Hyslop made a motion to pay the November bills and Susan Bulyar 2nd the motion. The motion passed and the bills will be paid.

Kootenai Pets for Life received the requested $500.00 for the printer and the roof to cover the recycling receptacles.

Shelter Report:

Tami White gave the shelter report

Sixteen animals came into the shelter as intakes; seven dogs and nine cats.

We have new volunteer Talia; she also has a business called There’s no place like Home.

Wilma Dotson sent KPFL 10 blankets for dogs and cats and ten dog toys.

Do we want to continue doing Veterans pets for free? KPFL decided to do the pets for ½price. Lynn Hagarty made the motion for the ½ price and Deb Starkweather seconded the motion. The motion carried.

Beth Murray brought up the idea for a gate in the back area where the cats are so they won’t bolt out of the shelter. We need to speak with Lorry Dotson about the installation. Beth Murray made the motion for the gate and Becky Monroe 2nd the motion. The motion carried.

Becky Monroe mentioned how the cats get fed. They need a steady food source. Please check for food and water when leaving the shelter.

An article, in the paper, or a radio announcement was mentioned about older cats, in the shelter, and how to get interest in adoptions

for them.

Lynn Hagarty made a motion to order parts for the Kuranda beds for the kennels in the shelter; Tami White 2nd the motion. The motion carried.

KPFL needs to look into a new board member as Linda Rodriguez has moved to California.

Judy Hyslop made a motion to adjourn. Deb Starkweather 2nd the motion. The motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 6:55 pm.

There will be no meeting in December.

The next meeting will be on January 9th, 2017 at 6:00 pm at the Antlers Restaurant; as the College is closed in January.

The reading of the minutes from the September 12th , 2016 meeting began at 6:00 pm. The minutes were approved as read.

The bills for October totaled $4,234.88 in operating costs including BWB meal $1,250.00 and $1,446.00 for The Philadelphia Ins. Co. and $5,807.84 for vet bills, mileage and chipping. Tami White made a motion to pay the October bills and Beth Murray 2nd the motion. The motion passed and the bills will be paid.

Correspondence

Lincoln County Community Foundations letter of approval for KPFL’s $500.00 request; for copy machine/recycle receptacle roof.

Lincoln County Christmas; toys/gifts collected for the December 18th, 2016 event at the VFW. Connie Holthaus will donate a Barbie doll.

Shelter Report - October 18th, 2016 10 cats travelled to Flathead Spay Neuter Task Force for surgeries. Judy Hyslop made the trip to Kalispell with the cats. Dr. Disney performed an emergency surgery on a small Lab on October 10th. She had 11 puppies which were still born; the dog was protein deficient. Dr. Disney was at the shelter on October 11th. Spay and neutering has been very busy. We still have County funds available.

The bills for September totaled $1,455.77 in operating costs and $6,203.25 for vet bills and chipping. Bobby McCanse made a motion to pay the September bills and Beth Murray 2nd the motion. The motion passed and the bills will be paid.

Shelter Report: There are 7 dogs in the shelter plus 35 cats and kittens. There are 40 cats plus 2 dogs in foster care. Six kittens to Pondery and Bonners with Becky Monroe.

Security cameras.

Stand Down October 1st and 2nd at VFW. Homesteaders donating use of fencing to corral the pets. Jamie Brebner brought the fencing and Jim Wardensky helped with the set up. Flathead Spay and Neuter Task Force providing supplies; rabies shots, vaccinations and micro chips. Judy Hyslop, Bev Jacobs, Beth Kumle and Connie Holthaus helped with completing the forms and assisting the vet techs.

The bills for August totaled $1,761.62 in operating costs and $5,835.51 for vet bills, mileage and chipping. Judy Hyslop made a motion to pay the August bills and Lynn Hagarty 2nd the motion. The motion passed and the bills will be paid.

Shelter Report - Tami White gave the shelter report. Intake 35 kittens; there are 77 cats and kittens in the shelter.

Kootenai Pets for Life is not housing the confiscated animals; poodles, donkeys or birds. These animals are evidence until the situation is resolved.

With more animals coming to the shelter as strays the volunteers wish to be alerted that there will be extra work involved. They wish to be emailed or phoned as to new situations. Also the log book can be checked for in coming and in takes. Bobby McCanse made a motion that volunteers be alerted to new situations at the shelter. Edwina Smith seconded the motion; the motion passed.

Sandy Bailey brought forth an idea about a fundraiser. Target shooting at the range maybe in the spring. We will discuss

early next year.

Kootenai Pets for Life Meeting - July 11, 2016

The meeting was called to order at 6:00 pm at the Henry’s Restaurant.

Attending: Eileen Carney, Judy Hyslop, Susan Bulyar, Carol McAllister, Marge Sullivan. Lynn Hegarty, Roxanne Parker & Debra Starkweather.

Marge read the minutes from the June meeting The minutes were approved as read.

Treasurers Report - Judy reviewed bills and a motion was made to pay bills, seconded and agreed.

Pet Quilts were donated by Kathryn Lee, Oregon; a friend of Billie Ritter They were displayed at the meeting. The colorful quilts are given with each adoption. Thank you cards will be sent to Kathryn and Billie.

Judy gave Shelter Report. In June there were 19 adoptions - 9 dogs and 10 cats. Two dogs were returned to owners. We took in 17 animals - 7 dogs and 10 cats. 1 dog and 2 cats were returned to Shelter.

The spay/neuter total from January through May was 238. The feral spay/neuters were 39. Microchipping total for same period was 71.

Judy asked for approval to ask people adopting kittens to hold them and bring than back at 4 months for spay/neuter. Dr. Yunker is not back at Flathead Spay Neuter Task Force yet so there is no one to do the kittens. She also asked to let the same people pay the Flathead Spay Neuter Task Force prices which are female at $25 and male at $20 when Dr. Disney did it. Judy made a motion, seconded by Lynn. Voted on and passed.

Debra Starkweather is the new WEX worker and has been an asset to the Shelter.

Fund Raising: The collection of cans resulted in $10 from Logger Days and $14 from the CARD concert.

The banks in Libby brought in $14 and in Troy $20.91.

The Shelter Letter brought in $100

Michael Tullis, Ace Hardware has suggested having an adopt a pet day if we want to do it. Discussion was held and it sounded like a good deal. We will use our regular adoption policies. EiIeen will look in to it.

Judy said he son John has checked on computer and updating. Frontier worked on a better Internet connection. The computer still needs updating and John will work on it.

Surveillance cameras were discussed. We will check with Corinne Wright about cameras the County is using.

Eileen asked if anyone could help with a Saturday morning weeding of Tami White’s garden as a helping hand to Tami while she undergoes medial treatment. Several volunteered and the plan is to start at 9 a.m.

The next meeting will be Monday, 6 p.m., at Fireman’s Park.

Kootenai Pets for Life Meeting - June 13, 2016

The meeting was called to order at 6:00 pm at the Antler’s Restaurant.

No Treasurers Report - Judy Hyslop is paying bills and making deposits as they come in while Connie Holthaus is out of town She is up to date on deposits and bills

Shelter Report:

Tami White gave the shelter report. In the month May there were 21 animals adopted - 4 dogs and 17 cats. We took in 4 dogs and 22 cats & kittens. We returned one dog to owner. At the end of the month there were 4 dogs in the shelter, 1 dog in foster care, 46 cats in Shelter, and 1 cat in Shelter. As of June 13 there are 4 dogs and 37 cats and kittens.

Spay and neuter totals from January through April were 182 and microchipping for same period was 47. Judy Hyslop has started scheduling microchipping on same days as spay/neuter in Libby. Call Judy to make an appointment. Feral cat spay/neuter for January through April was 33

Volunteers doing okay. Rob will be discharged from his program this month. Becky Monroe is taking cats to the Pend Orville Veterinary Service in Bonners Ferry when we have an ill cat that needs attention.

Edwina Smith and Bobbi McCanse will walk dogs, Bo and Nick, in the Logger Days parade. Dave Kammerer and Anita Beasley will carry banner. Eileen will sign KPFL up for the parade.

Master’s Touch Electric has replaced bulbs in lighting as needed and is scheduled to take care of backyard.

Judy, Rob and Dave cleaned the air exchange system and cleaned washer and dryer duct and area.

Dr. Yunker, Flathead Spay/Neuter Task Force, in Kalispell is ill this week and our June 21 appointment is cancelled. We can schedule 10 cats no younger than 2 months for Friday, the 24th. Dr. Disney will be in the Shelter on the June 20 and July 11 & 27.

Fund Raising Committee: We received $20 from the Troy banks and $14+ from the Libby banks.

Eileen Carney said KPFL will do recycling for Logger Days, the CARD concert and some other events during the summer.

Events schedule for fall are - Bow Wow Bash, October 8 and Brews for Benefits October 27.

Bark in the Park went well. Judy Hyslop, Eileen Carney, Edwina Smith and Bobbi McCanse sat at the table and interacted with those attending. Pictures in paper of Eileen and Judy.

There is $46 available for KPFL at the Amazon Smile site. Becky Monroe will try to connect with Connie to get information needed to get that money.

Judy suggested asking her son to check over Shelter computer to see if it is up to date Carol made motion, Beth seconded and it passed.

Bobbi McCanse brought up possible Data Base software for Shelter Computer. Marge Sullivan told that all adoption records are on line and available to Board and those that want to access them.

Possible shelter surveillance with cameras was brought up and discussed. Dave said he would do some research.

Judy made a motion to adjourn at 6:50, seconded by Carol. Meeting adjourned. The next meeting will be July 11 at Henry's Restaurant in the back room at 6 p.m.
